"No surgeon can heal the kind of wound that divides two brothers"
"One being at birth, rudely separated, we are one again"
After reading Abraham Verghese's novel, "Cutting for Stone," I selected two quotes to represent the beginning and end of the book. The quotes relate to themes of division, separation, and unification that are present throughout the book, as well as more literal medical and surgical themes. I scanned and manipulated images from a book, "Atlas of Human Anatomy," published in 1951, to represent ideas of physical separation of bodies and to evoke a sterile, academic tone.
